| Enjoy the Usuzan Ropeway! |
| A six-minute journey through the sky starting from Showa-Shinzan-Sanroku station provides you with a spectacular view of Lake Toya. |
| When you see the bare mountain face of O-Usu (Big Usu) emerging in front
of you, you are now arriving at Usuzan-Sancho station. |
| The Lake Toya Observation Deck is located on the right side after you exit the station. Mt. Showa Shinzan and Lake Toya lie right below you. |
To the Usu Crater Basin Observation Deck, turn left after exiting the station
and walk for about seven minutes.
You can approach the Gin-numa Great Crater, and enjoy close-up views of
O-Usu (Big Usu), Ko-Usu (Little Usu) and Usu Shinzan (New Usu) along the
way. |
| The Gin-numa Great Crater was formed as a result of the eruption that occurred
at the summit in 1977. The crater, one of the largest formed in Mt. Usuzan's history, still continues to emit large amounts of steam. Beyond the crater is Uchiura Bay which sprawls out toward the Pacific Ocean.
